Another Late WHOOKOS Update

Hello everyone. Again, another update concerning our late WHOOKOS episode. Late everything in general.

I first want to say that I’m not happy about this. I fully intended to release WHOOKOS 2 in September. The episode was finished in, more or less, mid-October. After that, all I had left to do was add the voices, which were all sent on time. Thanks again everyone. Way ahead of time in fact.

Now I need to tell everyone what’s been going on. I didn’t want to say anything more until the episode was online, but I can’t leave everyone in the dark either.

The first reason it took so long is because I underestimated how many voices I needed to add to all the characters. There are nine characters who speak in the next WHOOKOS episode. So there’s a spoiler.

The second reason is because I’ve been working on a Macbook Pro 15 inch laptop for the last seven years. I haven’t done a single hardware upgrade since. I developed my most recent animation online (depending on when you’re reading this) all the way back to WHOOKOS Beta: Episode – 1. The reason this is a big deal is because I’ve been using more and more advanced software over the years. When I first started uploading Flash animations to Newgrounds, the only software I used was Macromedia Flash, and Photoshop. These days, I use Flash, Photoshop, After Effects, Cinema 4D, and I’ll still use Logic on my Macbook until I decide a Windows alternative.

Recently, I’ve attained a new, decently powerful Windows gaming computer, and it has completely changed my situation. Before, editing in Flash would slow down a lot, due to the large 3D rendered backgrounds (many are large PNGs), but now everything runs smooth.
Unfortunately this wasn’t the only reason I’ve been taking forever. Like I said before. The episode was finished. Which was true. Again, more or less in early October. But it’s also worth mentioning that when I was working on this episode, I was also making it on multiple computers. Like I said. My Macbook is ancient, and often working on the fight scenes was practically impossible. So I’d hot-potato the episode between the Mac and one of our Windows computers at home from time to time. At first this didn’t seem like a bad idea.
A phenomenon of my animating past has reared it’s ugly head for the last time. I’ve spoken of it before. It’s a Flash error where the project file becomes corrupt. It happens when the Flash suddenly closes while you’re saving. I makes the file un-openable, for lack of a better work. But there is a ray of hope. It’s actually a pretty big ray.

In short, I was able to save 90% of the episode. I’ve been saving WHOOKOS 2’s individual scenes in multiple files, to avoid the very issue I’ve dealt with. What I lost was a LOT of the second fight scene. So I’ve been re-animating that lost part of the episode, and I still currently am.

I’m not going to give a release date right now (for obvious reasons), but I will say this. I fully intend on finishing the WHOOKOS, A.E. Chronics, and Zelda UO series. It obviously doesn’t look like that’s happening tomorrow, but there will be a time where I upload content just like I used to.

There is another reason I’m posting all of this. It’s not just more woah-is-me flatulation. I’m not rushing myself with the re-animating of this fight scene. I’ve rushed myself in the past for similar reasons and it really shows in my work. That said, I’d really like to come back and at least start posting updates and artwork again. Start interacting with the fans again.

This new website is a start. For those of you who just found this place, this is my new home site. Everything I’ve ever made can be found on this website. It’s worth mentioning that the site is still under development, so there’s no Register or Sign Up function yet. I’ll be working on that in the near future. The most you can do is comment. Comments go up for moderation right now since there’s no sign up function. I check comments fairly often so you’re will show up within 24 hours. Also, don’t be surprised if you see things change from time to time. There’s still content left to for me to add and I haven’t decided how I’m going to present it yet.

Until WHOOKOS 2 is up, I’ll be posting more updates and occasional artwork soon, now that I have this new computer. This includes posting on Twitter, Facebook, Deviantart, I’m basically slowly trying to make a comeback since I already have to re-animate a fight scene. I’m going to slowly (not too slowly) enjoy re-animating this scene, rather that rushing it while I tear my eyes out like in the days of yore.

Gotta say it’s a sigh of relief to see that you’re doing ok! Have been a fan since back when WHOOKOS beta and Zelda UO Beta weren’t…well, betas! Take your time, for now it’s reassuring to know that your work isn’t dead.

OMG your still ALIVE!!!! That’s great news for me honestly, Because I’ve been following Zelda:UO since there were only 3 or 4 episodes on YouTube and when you restarted the series I was happy that you were giving it a new breath of life. However during this stagnant update period I was worried something had happened and you either wouldn’t be updating ever due to lost interest or you couldn’t continue for some reason (I don’t think the former will ever happen). But I’m ecstatic that you are continuing and it was just a set back in production due to an error. Either way keep creating awesomeness and being awesome Scoot.

I wish you luck, Scoot! Been following your animations for well over 6 years now, I think, and I’ve never given up faith in you. I’m so excited to see what the next episodes have for us, I’m sure they’re worth the wait!

You can do it scoot. We have faith in you! Look forward to seeing episodes being made faster and sooner (and most importantly better! :D) I love the new website! I just found out about it. I like the idea of a progress bar for your animations!

I appreciate it the encouragement! Though maybe start having faith after I’ve at least uploaded two full length (8-11 min on average) animation in a single year. lol

Man, do I know the *paaaaaain* of having lost a lot of progress on a big project. I once wrote a fight scene the size of a novella – and a power out made me lose a good eight hours and ten thousand-odd words of progress. I’m pretty sure that’s what a heart attack looks like.
Just persevere, Scoot. I’m pretty sure I can speak for of a lot of us when I say I’m just glad to see you’re still putting forth the work.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – I’ve been following you a long time, and you’ve proven time and time again that the waits are worthy investments. You’re a fantastic storyteller and I find myself eagerly anticipating every little peak into the worlds you’re crafting.

Man am I glad I found you again. I haven’t seen your animations is a LONG time. I remember when I found your Zelda UO series on Newgrounds way back when I was in elementary school. Now I’m 20 years old in college so its nice to take a nostalgia trip. I hope you’ll continue UO series as well A.E Chronicles. It’s sad to see that you need to re-animate the fight scene so I’ll be waiting in anticipation for when you release the next episode.
    God speed Scoots

That sucks ass, dude. I feel your pain. I worked on a group project animating stuff and all of us experienced having to redo our work because of Flash’s stupid little quirks. Mostly our issues would be Flash crashing right when we were about to save our progress. There was a lot of all caps screaming in our Skype chats. Also, I was working with FLASH CS3 on a Dell Dimension E521 from 2006 in 2011-2013, so I know the pain of spending a good amount of time waiting for the lag to stop and the rendering to get done.

To think I always thought you’ve been working on an iMac all this time XD

The upside to this Flash error and redoing a scene is that typically it will be better than the previous version now that you have the experience in making it already. If nothing else, that is something I will look forward to (however I’m always looking forward to new episodes anyways). Actually I’ve already noticed improvement in animation and character models just by what you’ve shared, so there are many reasons to get pumped!

Besides all of that, like every other dedicated fan and friend I’m glad you’re still kicking, learning, improving, and creating.

Scoot, i personally don’t mind it being late, take your time. I rather know why it has been delayed, a reason, a sign of life rather than being in the dark and told it should have been there a month ago or two, or since October.

Take your time, relax and have fun animating and drawing your shows. Most of us have been there since Zelda UO beta and WHOOKOS beta. We’ve all had delays, mishaps, technical difficulties and more that gave us a roadblock. Stay cool, do what you need too, we’ll wait. We just want more signs of life and you said you were going to do so, I won’t worry as much now.

Thanks for the update Scoot, it really means a lot. Sorry to hear about the corruption error on the fight scene but it’s good to hear that it didn’t corrupt everything! 😀 Keep up the good work Scoot, we’ll be waiting patiently. ^w^

Thanks for the update, I look forward to the episode when it inevitably gets released. Sorry about the Flash error, I know that can be a beach. When I get more disposable income, I will look into donating to you. I mean, you’ve been providing me with entertainment for a few years now, it’s the least that I can do.

It’s good to hear you guys are still ok, Scoot! XD And don’t worry dude! Take as much time as you need, especially with the tech. I’ve been patient since the very start (which was like WHOOKOS Beta 1 back when we were all 13-14 XD) and I’ve waited this long so what’s a bit more time? >v< As a fellow artist we all know these gems of advice: Never rush yourself dude, otherwise your gonna either hurt yourself and/or the art's gonna turn out sloppy as you've pointed out. I've followed you guys on DA, Twitter, & Tumblr so I'll be kept up on whenever you feel it's ready to post artwork or animations again ^v^
