Hello everyone. Again, another update concerning our late WHOOKOS episode. Late everything in general.
I first want to say that I’m not happy about this. I fully intended to release WHOOKOS 2 in September. The episode was finished in, more or less, mid-October. After that, all I had left to do was add the voices, which were all sent on time. Thanks again everyone. Way ahead of time in fact.
Now I need to tell everyone what’s been going on. I didn’t want to say anything more until the episode was online, but I can’t leave everyone in the dark either.
The first reason it took so long is because I underestimated how many voices I needed to add to all the characters. There are nine characters who speak in the next WHOOKOS episode. So there’s a spoiler.
The second reason is because I’ve been working on a Macbook Pro 15 inch laptop for the last seven years. I haven’t done a single hardware upgrade since. I developed my most recent animation online (depending on when you’re reading this) all the way back to WHOOKOS Beta: Episode – 1. The reason this is a big deal is because I’ve been using more and more advanced software over the years. When I first started uploading Flash animations to Newgrounds, the only software I used was Macromedia Flash, and Photoshop. These days, I use Flash, Photoshop, After Effects, Cinema 4D, and I’ll still use Logic on my Macbook until I decide a Windows alternative.
Recently, I’ve attained a new, decently powerful Windows gaming computer, and it has completely changed my situation. Before, editing in Flash would slow down a lot, due to the large 3D rendered backgrounds (many are large PNGs), but now everything runs smooth.
Unfortunately this wasn’t the only reason I’ve been taking forever. Like I said before. The episode was finished. Which was true. Again, more or less in early October. But it’s also worth mentioning that when I was working on this episode, I was also making it on multiple computers. Like I said. My Macbook is ancient, and often working on the fight scenes was practically impossible. So I’d hot-potato the episode between the Mac and one of our Windows computers at home from time to time. At first this didn’t seem like a bad idea.
A phenomenon of my animating past has reared it’s ugly head for the last time. I’ve spoken of it before. It’s a Flash error where the project file becomes corrupt. It happens when the Flash suddenly closes while you’re saving. I makes the file un-openable, for lack of a better work. But there is a ray of hope. It’s actually a pretty big ray.
In short, I was able to save 90% of the episode. I’ve been saving WHOOKOS 2’s individual scenes in multiple files, to avoid the very issue I’ve dealt with. What I lost was a LOT of the second fight scene. So I’ve been re-animating that lost part of the episode, and I still currently am.
I’m not going to give a release date right now (for obvious reasons), but I will say this. I fully intend on finishing the WHOOKOS, A.E. Chronics, and Zelda UO series. It obviously doesn’t look like that’s happening tomorrow, but there will be a time where I upload content just like I used to.
There is another reason I’m posting all of this. It’s not just more woah-is-me flatulation. I’m not rushing myself with the re-animating of this fight scene. I’ve rushed myself in the past for similar reasons and it really shows in my work. That said, I’d really like to come back and at least start posting updates and artwork again. Start interacting with the fans again.
This new website is a start. For those of you who just found this place, this is my new home site. Everything I’ve ever made can be found on this website. It’s worth mentioning that the site is still under development, so there’s no Register or Sign Up function yet. I’ll be working on that in the near future. The most you can do is comment. Comments go up for moderation right now since there’s no sign up function. I check comments fairly often so you’re will show up within 24 hours. Also, don’t be surprised if you see things change from time to time. There’s still content left to for me to add and I haven’t decided how I’m going to present it yet.
Until WHOOKOS 2 is up, I’ll be posting more updates and occasional artwork soon, now that I have this new computer. This includes posting on Twitter, Facebook, Deviantart, I’m basically slowly trying to make a comeback since I already have to re-animate a fight scene. I’m going to slowly (not too slowly) enjoy re-animating this scene, rather that rushing it while I tear my eyes out like in the days of yore.
